Position Summary
Responsible for supervising the activities of employees engaged in the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of meters used in electric utilities. Also responsible for providing technical advice and assistance to customers, electricians and utility personnel concerning metering problems.
Essential Job Functions
- Test accuracy of meters used for recording electric current consumption.
- Supervise Meter Technicians.
- Assign work schedule projects to Meter Technicians.
- Perform employee evaluations and approve vacation and leave time for subordinates.
- Initiate disciplinary action for subordinates as necessary.
- Install, disconnect, remove and reconnect electric power meters used to record current consumption of residential, commercial and industrial customers.
- Respond to emergency outages.
Minimum Education & Work Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
Successful completion of Apprentice Meter Technician Program
6 years of experience and certification at Journey-level Meter Technician
Department of Labor Meter Technician Certificate
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Education/ Experience
Preferred Knowledge – Abilities & Skills
- Successful completion of a recognized Apprentice Training and Progression Program
- 6 or more years of experience as a Journey Meter Technician
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of meter reading software
- omprehensive knowledge of Banner Billing System
- Skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Skill in supervising Meter Technician staff
- Ability to work in a team environment
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Class A CDL Texas driver’s license
Successful completion of Apprentice Meter Technician Program
Department of Labor Meter Technician Certificate
Physical Tasks & Working Conditions
The incumbent works outdoors with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
