DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leads and manages the employees and activities of the Facilities delivery line within Capital Projects service line. The Assistant Director (Exe Lev) is classified as a Assistant Director and reports directly to the Deputy Director of Capital Projects of the Houston Public Works Department. Working with the Deputy Director, the Assistant Director establishes policies and procedures consistent with the Division, the Department and City requirements. The Assistant Director position provides overall management, including budget, developing goals, monitoring performance and customer excellence, and motivating of a team of 50+ employees. This position resolves a wide range of internal and external problems, applying diplomacy and assertive maintain effective working relations. Manages all aspects of personnel, building a cooperative work team and productive environment. This position will also be responsible delivering critical wastewater infrastructure projects as part of the consent decree early package projects that the City of Houston entered in agreement with EPA.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency management position at the Tier II level.
KNOWLEDGE:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Seven years of administrative experience are required, with at least three of those years in a managerial capacity.
A Master’s degree may be substituted for two years of experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Preference will also be given to candidates with at least four years in a management capacity.
** Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
GENERAL INFORMATION:
