Summary This position is in the Smithsonian Institution (SI), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The employee serves as the senior IT systems/applications administrator of a variety of commercial software applications/systems that are used throughout the Institution, primarily in support of collaboration applications. More than one selection may be made from this announcement. Responsibilities As an Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support), the incumbent will perform the following duties: Develops and executes project plans that cover acquisition, testing of new tools, modification of existing tools, integrating new technologies to meet customer requirement testing, customer notification, and final implementation. Creates and modifies documentation including end user reference guides and operational support procedures. Develops, documents, modifies and implements the process by which users receive access and training to each system. Manages licenses, including removing users who no longer need access. Provides instruction and assistance to OCIO customers on supported software. Identifies areas where formal customer documentation is needed and then takes the lead in developing that documentation within Service Now Knowledge Base. Qualifications GS-13 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as experience providing technical support to escalated and complex issues in relation to commercial software applications and systems such as ArcGIS, Dropbox, Endnote, File Transfer Protocol, LISTSERV, LinkedIn training, Mathematica, Office 365 Products, DocuSign and Adobe Creative Cloud; and developing, documenting, and implementing procedures and end user reference guides. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week. In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience for all positions individuals must have related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Problem Solving: Identifies and analyzes problems, weighs relevance and accuracy of information, generates and evaluates alternative solutions, and makes sound recommendations. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
