Job Description

Network Specialist III

Performs complex and advanced computer systems analysis work involving desktop, local area and wide area network issues. Oversee desktop and network related projects involving installation, implementation, and monitoring. Performs project management duties including technical and tactical management of tasks, technological solutions, enhancements, and modifications to existing environment that have an impact on customers. Provide hardware and software support of all agency equipment including workstations, printers, multi-function devices and network related equipment. Performs desktop performance monitoring using agency approved tools. Perform research, testing, implementation, and documentation of technological solutions or enhancements. Perform vendor compliance monitoring. Provides technical trainings and technical staff supervision. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment

Essential Job Functions

Available to work afterhours and weekends to include some holidays when work duty dictates afterhours support such as network equipment upgrades, computer/site moves, natural disasters, and other IT related activities that can only be performed when end users are out. Provides technical support of agency computer hardware, software, and network technology to manager, peers, subordinates, and other agency staff. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve agency technology infrastructure problems involving hardware, software and network related issues. Perform hardware, software, and network equipment installations. Perform desktop and network performance monitoring to address latency issues, conflicts, or other performance issues. Provide project management oversight of IT related projects within area of support. Design, modify, and implement new or revised systems to automate processes or improve workflow. Develop, test, maintain and implement computer programs or scripts to automate processes. Conduct product research and analysis of workstations, hardware, software, and other business solutions to identify issues and make recommendations based on this research. Develop, prepare and submit reports, statistics and other correspondence to manager, peers, and customers as requested. Complete, submit and respond to all IT assignments on a timely basis that meet management expectations. Provide first-level staff supervision and oversee the work of others. This work includes new installations and computer moves (Change Requests) to complete short-term projects and for direct involvement with the planning and successful completion of long-term projects.

Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

Experience identifying and resolving hardware, software, and network related issues.

Knowledge of local and wide area networks, network equipment such as routers and switches, cabling technology, data processing techniques, computer hardware and software, network operating systems, data security protocols, and desktop/network performance monitoring.

Knowledge performing project management duties including project oversight, project status reporting, developing project documentation and facilitating meetings.

Ability to provide first-level supervision of team members and vendors, and lead technical teams and oversee the work of others.

Ability to provide technical trainings to others.

Knowledge in performing systems analysis work, designing technical solutions and interpret technical information.

Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems, local and wide area networks, information technology equipment, programming environments, computer hardware and software, computer operating systems, and business applications.

Ability to organize workload, prioritize assignments and manage multiple projects to meet required deadlines.

Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Registration Or Licensure Requirements

A+ Preferred

Initial Selection Criteria

Certification in International Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Preferred

Minimum two years working experience upgrading and supporting desktops, laptops, and tablets in a network environment including maintenance and troubleshooting.

Minimum two years working experience supporting local area networks and associated equipment such as comm switches and LAN room communications equipment.

Minimum two years working experience standing up LAN room rack equipment and associated cabling for setting up End Users in building post renovation/new construction.

Minimum one year working experience with asset inventory of computer equipment.

Minimum two years working experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and above.

Minimum two years working experience supporting Microsoft Windows 7 and above.

Minimum two years working experience supporting Microsoft Office 2010 and above.

Minimum two years working experience supporting users in a Microsoft Active Directory environment.

Minimum two years working experience with and installing Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum one year working experience supervising, leading, training technical staff and mentoring new hires.

Minimum two years working experience providing technical and tactical supervision of projects in an IT environment.

Additional Information

Must be capable of lifting, loading, and bending to pick up computer and network equipment to complete work requests.
